Regulations and Resources for Pools and Spas

Public swimming pools, spas, and special use pools are regulated under the authority of Chapter 3749 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) and Chapter 3701-31 of the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC).

Environmental Health Specialists here routinely inspect every public swimming pool (while open to the public) paying particular attention to water quality, maintenance of filtration and circulation equipment, safety equipment, record-keeping, and the maintenance of the overall facility. Pool & Spa inspection reports are available to search through the Sandusky County Health Department upon request.

Fecal Incident Response steps can be found here.

The Certified Pool Operators Course is offered online and in-person.

If your pool or spa replaces any equipment that is not like-for-like, your facility will need to fill out the Public Swimming Pool Equipment Replacement Notification Report.

The Weekly Pool Operation and Incident Report is what shall be used in pool and spa facilities to keep accurate records, which shall be available for review during inspections.

The Ohio Department of Health offers more information here.
